San Antonio in a nutshell (or a mercury) Posted by Picasa

Busy August

Hello again everyone...August is flying by so quickly! The weekends keep popping up so fast.that the weeks are just blending into one. We were supposed to be busy planning our wedding but unfortunately more important things keep coming up. Last weekend was Leigh Ann's (Laura's big sister) birthday so we were headed to Dallas Friday afternoon for a little birthday celebration and an engagement photo session. When we reached San Marcos we received a phone call from Kevin's mom and turned right back around to San Antonio. We dropped Lilly off with our fabulous neighbor Sandy and the three dachsunds...Oscar, Woody, and Peanut for the weekend. (We owe her huge...so any creative suggestions would be greatly appreciated). We got to Houston around midnight and went straight to the TX med. center to check on Kevin's grandfather who was in the icu preparing for emergency brain surgery. Needless to say our weekend consisted of lounging in the waiting area of the hospital with family, but we are happy to report that his grandfather is making much needed progress and is well on his way to recuperation. There is nothing like hanging out in a hospital all weekend to see how well you have it..much less trying to sleep there. That was by far the worst nights sleep either of us has ever endured! There are lots and lots of families who are struggling for life every minute of every day for several weeks... and we certainly admire their courage and their hope day in and day out. We could barely manage for a weekend.
As for this weekend we are either heading back to Houston to visit Kevin's grandfather or traveling up to Granbury for wedding portraits attempt #2...and a nice get away for our stressful work of week. We'll let you know what other exciting events play out this weekend. Until then stay safe, enjoy the weekend no matter how short it may seem, and enjoy your families and loved ones as they are not around nearly long enough.

Where's Lilly? Posted by Picasa

It's rough being a dog

We admit it, Lilly hasn't really had her fair share of exposure on the blog. It's time for us to share a little about life from her perspective. For those of you who have yet to meet her, she has quite an unusual personality for a canine. For a dog who appears to be spoiled, she sure has quite a few paranoias. Being part greyhound, she really does love to run. She is what you would call a sprinter, we are more long distance runners. So, when she sees us in running shoes you can not pry her off of the couch. For instance, we started running again recently and the first day she got really excited and put her harnass on and went outside with us only to be tricked into running a couple of miles. She happened to do better than us but it somehow managed to scar her because she refuses to go out again. We invited her again last week but she could only manage to make it halfway down the stairs before having a complete breakdown and having to turn around.(see photos above). Then there are the thunderstorms. Down here in South Texas we do not get too many strong storms, but when we do she is literally a nervous wreck. She typically heeds the meteorologists warnings and heads to an enclosed room (Kevin's closet) and waits out the storm. Well recently she must have sensed a stronger system moving through as when we got home, we could not find her anywhere. Eventually Kevin peeked in Laura's closet(probably the cushiest place in the house) to see Lilly's tiny head peek up out of the clothes hamper which had been serving as her coccoon throughout the storm. Of course once we stopped laughing for both stories, we had to take some photos to share with everyone. More to come later. enjoy~
